Entering the world of Breguet (and thus having a part of a few of the historically most important brands / produces ever) meant for a lengthy period two watches: the ref. 5157 (which is still in the catalogue), an automatic 38mm gold watch using easy hours and minutes screen. Very, very classical watch… maybe too classical, if you ask me but also ultra-thin, with a 5.4mm case. For those needing something a bit more original and more lively, there was the option of the 5140, combining the identical base movement but with the inclusion of a small second and a different guilloche motif on the dial. Main issue, this view was larger (40mm) and mainly, it was considerably thicker (over 10mm). What was enjoyable however was that the tasteful twist on the dial, with the off-centered small second sub-dial — something which was also true for the rotor on the movement. In general, the 5140 has been a great watch with one major draw… but this is all about to change. It must be mentioned, the evolution between the older 5140 along with the brand new Breguet Classique Mens Watch Amazon Replica 7147 is minimal, if not near be inexistent. You have to look at it at the details to spot what has evolved. However, it’s not always a terrible thing. The 5140 has been a very nice watch in the long run. From the details, the case is approximately the same. The crown is a bit larger, but then again, we’re talking minor evolutions. The palms are identical (of course… you do not need to get rid of those iconic blued hands), to the exclusion of the small flip side, with now has a different counterweight. The design of the dial remains identical, with a central part in “clou de Paris”, a tiny second a 5h30 and two tracks on the periphery, one for the hours and also one for the minutes. Be aware that the Roman numerals are currently a bit thinner and that the second track has applied indexes every 5 minutes, in golden (not painted in dark anymore). The main difference comes from the central part of this small second counter, as the guillochage has turned 45 degrees. Overall, we’re not likely to file for revolution… but it does not matter.
Rarely are exceedingly simple watches striking to the point of being obvious but the Breguet Classique 5175 “Ginza Anniversary” certainly is. Its styling also speaks of consumer taste in Japan, which is traditional and proper.
The most unusual quality of the Classique 5175 is the blue grand feu enamel dial. Such dials are almost always white, inevitably beautiful but sometimes too common. Blue is decidedly unusual, and it is a first for Breguet.
The italicised Breguet-style numerals are made of powdered platinum while the hands are rhodium-plated, Breguet-style naturally. And the minute track is comprised of stars and symbols, a detail taken from vintage Breguet pocket watches. Like all other Breguet watches, this has the “secret signature” faintly engraved on the dial at six o’clock.
The watch is a variant of the Classique 5177BB/29/9V6, but what separates the two is that the limited edition has a blue enamel dial sans date display – an crucial improvement for traditionalists (and rendering the movement a separate calibre).
The case is white gold and 38mm in diameter, constructed in the typical Breguet style with narrow welded lugs, a fluted case back and narrow, domed bezel. Inside is the cal. 777J (the suffix is for “Japan”), an automatic movement with a 55-hour power reserve. Like many other Breguet movements, it has a silicon escape wheel, pallet fork and hairspring.
A limited edition of just 10 watches, the Classique 5175 was conceived to mark the 10th year of the Breguet boutique in Ginza, the poshest shopping district in Tokyo. It’s located on the third floor of the grand Nicolas G. Hayek Center, a 14-floor glass edifice with one Swatch Group brand boutique per floor and a restaurant. Designed by renowned Japanese architect Shigeru Ban, the building probably made parent company Swatch Group more money via appreciating real estate values than watch sales.
